A Popular Plastic Packaging Alternative

Posted on by

Plastic containers are all containers made entirely or at least partially of polyethylene plastic. Polyethylene is a versatile plastic that can be molded into all sorts of shapes and sizes. Plastic containers are omnipresent both as single-use or reusable/recyclable plastic bottles, plastic mugs, plastic tiles, foam containers, plastic totes, and other such plastic commodities. A plastic container’s usage depends on its usage. Nowadays it has become an inevitable part of everyday life.

Plastic packaging is an integral part of the contemporary business industry. Many developing nations have to import industrial plastic for use in their everyday production processes because of the lack of advanced infrastructure and low-grade raw materials. This has forced these countries to import advanced machinery and manufacturing techniques so as to meet the manufacturing demands and eventually produce plastic products that are of superior quality. Plastic is used for packaging not only food but also non-food products such as cosmetics and detergents, medical supplies, and even clothing gia thung phi nhua 50 lit.

Phthalates pose a significant health hazard when used as plastic packaging. High levels of phthalates are released during the manufacturing process, and these chemicals are known carcinogens. It is very common to find high level of phthalate contamination in many food containers today. A lot of phthalates are emitted during the mold making process, and emissions of higher level of phthalates are found in plastic containers after they are filled.

The long term health effects of these chemicals depend upon the level of exposure to them. Phthalates are known endocrine disruptors. Endocrine disrupting chemicals have been identified as probable human carcinogens. Research has shown that exposure of workers to phthalates can result in cancer. Animal studies have also indicated that these chemicals can be transferred to humans through ingestion.

The plastics today have a very low porosity and these plastics are flexible. Due to this they can easily pass through our skin. It has been found that the most common plastic that contains phthalates are polyisocyanurate and polyethylene terephthalate or PET bottles. As these chemicals get absorbed in the body, they produce endocrine disrupting hormones that cause a wide range of serious health effects including infertility, fertility problems, and cancer. These chemicals are being used in food containers to ensure that the food remains fresh and uncontaminated.

Plastic packaging does not offer any form of protection against these chemicals. Even if the plastic containers do not break down, they can leak chemicals into the food. Phthalates released as a result of plastic packaging leech into the sea water and can eventually contaminate seafood. Chemicals leech into our ground water making it unsafe for drinking. As these Leach into the ground water, so do harmful toxins to wildlife. Reusable polystyrene is a non-biodegradable product that can be disposed of in our garbage.
